About Truex Métier
Truex Métier (me-tya) is the reincarnation of Truex Associates, one of the most successful and well known staffing companies in the Bay Area during the 80s and 90s. Founded in 1983 by Mary Ann Truex and John Cullens, Truex Associates grew to 500 contract and permanent employees throughout California. Truex Associates along with its sister company, Truex Temps, were sold to a publically traded staffing company in 1998. After the sale, John and Mary Ann became involved in various venture capital and nonprofit endeavors including 6 years of research into Positive Psychology and its effect on corporate productivity. This was the most exciting of all of their ventures. Can positivity actually have an impact on the productivity and profitability of an organization?
Studies and research abound that prove scientifically and empirically that positive employees are more productive. They are more creative, more open to new ideas, more willing to take on new challenges; and it is contagious. We all know that a “bad apple” can spoil the barrel; well a “good apple” can raise the level of teamwork, cooperation, and productivity of an entire barrel; your business or department.
There are several successful companies that are helping their clients improve positivity in their existing employees; but why not recruit and hire positive employees instead of “fixing” them later? The answer is simple; few companies have the recruiting experience and the expertise in Positive Psychology required to source and evaluate positive candidates. And we all know that positive, highly productive candidates don’t fall into our laps or spend their lives searching job postings; they must be sought after.

About the Principals
Mary Ann Truex
After receiving her dual BS degrees in Marketing and Finance from U.C. Berkeley, Mary Ann Truex joined a well-known San Francisco based image and corporate design firm as Assistant to the President.
In 1981 she met John Cullens who had spent 15 years in the high tech industry in positions ranging from Engineer to VP of Sales and Marketing for several companies ranging from start-ups to Fortune 500 companies before entering the executive search industry. In 1983, John and Mary Ann started Truex Associates which for 16 years was the fastest growing San Francisco and Peninsula staffing company. Truex Associates redefined the industry by focusing on matching candidate’s strengths and personality with the client’s corporate culture.
In 1998, John and Mary Ann sold their business to a publicly traded staffing company and began working on a new model for the staffing industry. Mary Ann spent six years studying and doing research in the Positive Psychology field including becoming certified as a life coach by the Applied Neuroscience Institute.
Mary Ann found that while we all have a genetic positivity set point, our positivity level can be improved by a significant amount which is contrary to the belief of psychologists over the last millennium. We all know that positivity has a direct effect on productivity. Positive employees are more creative, more open to new ideas and more willing to take on increased responsibility. Therefore, if positivity can be improved then productivity and profitability can be improved by hiring positive effective employees.
The new company, Truex Métier, is based on sourcing candidates who possess high positivity, integrity and character strengths.
